When I used to think about International Women's Day, I used to think about my own life and all of the opportunities that I am blessed with because of the women who came before me. Although I still think about my own boss-lady dreams and am grateful for the women who paved the way for our generation to be openly independent and career-driven, when I thought about International Women's Day today, I couldn't stop thinking about this girl right here.
It's crazy how marriage and motherhood can reshape the way you think about everything, but I've realized more and more how much these roles have done that for me. Although IWD is definitely a day to encourage each other to demand more from society and ourselves, as well as fight for equality, it is also a day to celebrate how incredibly unique God designed us to be. I guess I already knew all of this because watching my mom growing up always blew my mind, but I didn’t truly understand how much women are handling every damn day until I became a military wife, a step mom, and a business owner.
As women, we are gentle and nurturing, but fiercely protective. We are compassionate and emotional, yet stubborn and strong. We can grow human beings inside of our bodies and recover almost IMMEDIATELY and feed those tiny humans with the same exhausted body every day all day without rest. When we aren't growing babies, we are shedding our uterus lining once a month and our hormones are constantly changing. Even with all of THAT biology going on, we somehow have the ability to balance the double standard of being a badass at work during the day and the glue at home after hours. We are problem solvers, encouragers, healers, caretakers and teachers and we are expected to make it all look easy with minimal meltdowns. I am proud to be part of a generation that is more open about these topics and I hope that when Mila grows up, womanhood is even more celebrated!
So here's to the strong women who are building each other up instead of tearing each other down. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them. 💪🏻💕🎀💋 Mila girl, you are undeniably special. Don't you ever forget it! Happy International Women’s Day, y’all!
XOXO,
Britt
